MISC:   Raleigh Twenty on E-Bay posted by: ThomJ. on 2/7/2007 at 4:45:14 PM
Saw this on e-bay; item#300077162317. Looks intersting but I'm leary as I don't know that much about the old Raleigh folders. Do you think it's worth the effort to bid on or pass? Thx, Thom.

Looks nice. Clean and a really good deal at around $100.
Odd though, it has 20 x 1 3/8 wheels. I thought they had 20 x 2 wheels..?

This model has the larger of the two wheel sizes they used. As is, it's the better of the two models (the other one usually has chrome-plated fenders). I'm not sure if this came with an extra-short Pletscher rack like the later model did. But its price is MORE than $100 - notice there's a reserve and it's not met.

Thanks for all your input. I don't think I'll bid on this. I have a feeling that the reserve may be around $250.00. With estimated shipping to Calif close to $100.00 it would be too pricy for what the bike is. I'll keep an eye on it and see if it comes up again without a reserve. Thx for all your help, Thom.

FOR SALE:   1960's Rollfast Tandem bicycle (mint-unrestored) posted by: Craig Tupot on 1/29/2007 at 9:35:34 PM
I have pulled out a Rollfast Tandem riding bicyle out of my Aunt and Uncles garage. The bike was placed in there years ago and long forgotten. An old blanket covered it from dust, and a large dresser protected anything from hitting it. The bike is mint. Not a ding, dent scratch, rub mark, rust mark ... I brought it into the bike shop to get new rubber (tires) ... and the owner wanted me to place it on display. Does anyone know how much this bike is worth? I am willing to sell it ... The bike is red... all original safety stickers and emblems are in tack. This bike has never been restored or touched ... besides new tires. (Ctupot@aol.com) - Long island, NY

It's worth what someone will pay. Watch ebay for a while and see how your bike stacks up against the ones that sell. Remember that tandems are very expensive to ship (talk to bike shop guy) and the ones that are in populous areas sell easier and for better prices than ones that are way out there with no easy way to deliver.

I have a civilian version of the paratrooper bicycle called the Compax Traveler mfd. by Westfield Mfg. in Westfield, MA ca 1942 the difference lies in the tires, civilian version is 26 x 1 and 1/4 and paratrooper version is balloon tire 26 x 2.125. the bike is not really a folder but rather a take-a-part bike with a large wingnut that allows separation of the front ass'y from the rear the frame being a large single downtube. The handle bars are "bat" wing style again with a wingnut that allows bars to be set downturn, mustache or upturned. My version has a 2 speed hub with control mounted under the saddle on the seat post. Hope this info. is helpful. Date code is under the bottom bracket with first digit A=1936 mine is G=1942....paul

There are a couple photos of the civilian version of that bike in the picture database here. I think Columbia branded them, too.
I wouldn't want to jump out of a plane with one of those boat anchors strapped to my back!

When was the last time any of us saw the Schwinn produced version of the WW2 BSA Paratrooper bike. The pedals are way better than the BSA version. I only saw one in a Schwinn book.

Just remembering an old gentleman that road all over the country, probably 1952-1955 that had a hex tube shiny silver bike that he said would breakdown and go in a suitcase. Anybody got an idea what it was and what it would be worth now?
