I have an American Flyer womens step through bicycle with sew up wheels (26") double roller chain, lace rear fender with kickstand built in. Does anyone have any info re the company? Thanks
I have just bought an old american flyer, and also looking for information, pictures, any info........regards
I would like to find out any info or helpful hints for beginners to this collecting lifestyle. My dad is considering buying vintage bikes and restoring them. I would like to surprise him with some info. If anyone has insider's hints, etc. please let me know. Any info (small or big), just let me know. He has said something about "fat wheels" or "fly wheels". Probably interested in 30's-60's, leisure not racing bikes. We are in the North Central TX area, so any show/swap meet info is also appreciated! Thank you in advance!!!
Go to yard sales, flea markets and your local Good Will and Salvation Army stores looking for bikes. The era of bikes he is interested in (30's-60's, leisure not racing bikes) contains some of the wildest, coolest and most unique cycles ever made. When you locate something interesting, before you buy it check the price guide here at oldroads and look at auction prices on eBay for that particular cycle. Also - stay away from any bike that has been restored or re-painted. An original in average condition is can be worth more than a restored bike in perfect condition.
When I was about 10 years old I had a 20 inch Western Flyer and I loved to ride with the big kids who were 3 or 4 years older, and they all had 26 inch bikes. (This was in the 1940's) The big kids said I could ride with them if I could keep up with them on one of their long rides, I never could keep up with them with my little bike until one day a bicycle repair man showed me how to change my sprocket from the little stock 20 inch to a bigger 26 inch sprocket. Well from then on it started out a little slower but once I got rolling on that little 20 inch bike I not only could stay with the big kids but I could pass some of them. This was before there were different speed bikes with gear changers. The funny thing was although I was not peddeling that fast my little 20 inch wheel were really turning fast. LOL

I'm going to be in London for a week starting next Monday. I'm wondering if anyone has any good bicycle-related destinations I should check out.
I would appreciate any information I can get. I purchased a jc higgins bike (ladies) from a garage sale, real cheap...has the light, generator, and the sprocket says jc higgins around the circunference of it. The bike is in really good shape. I would like to know the year and what it is worth. Also the bike is painted black, has front and back brakes, and is a three speed. Is the a serial number on it, and if so where? Again thanks for any info...I appreciate your time.

I bought this bike from my neighbor for 25 dollars because it was being waisted in his backyard I think it is very old because under the crank there is no serial code only on the left rear dropout the initials se are stamped on it the seat says mesinger but when i looked up the pic it looks nothing like mine it has an old bullet headlight that takes enormous batteries please any411 apreciated
Notice to anyone interested; I have many old bikes that are doomed for the scrap yard. Would rather sell to someone who can restore a part of our history. contact me quickly please I am running out of time.
Where are you and what types ofbikes do you have?

God what a great site -- keep up the good work. also do you remember summer and you couldn't wait to ride? you never see kids riding in my area anymore let alone working on them.seems like a flat tire can be a death penalty for a bike anymore. maybe i'm just a old fart trying to relive my youth but I swear we had more cheap fun. thanks for letting me vent.
I agree with you on both counts. 1) this is great web site 2) kids don't ride bikes (or do anything else on their own outside anymore). They don't know how to do anything physical or mechanical.
