MISC:   Identify an Object posted by: Rick on 2/13/2001 at 12:04:02 AM
I'm trying to identify an object I found in my Dad's basement. It says Persons-Majestic MFG. Co. Worchester Mass. on it. It's shaped like a bicycle light, except where the lens would be is just an opening. Inside is some type of fan blades. There is also a row of openings around the side of the fan blades. The back looks like it might go against the tire like a generator. If any one can help me figure out what this is, and/or what it might be worth, if anything, I would appreciate it. Please e-mail me at inctrl@juno.com. Thank you.

Deluxe Spaceliners and Flightliners have chrome frames, front shocks, battery taillights. There are several levels of lesser models chrome and painted. Some without springers, w/fake taillights, ... Nice ones sell for around $150-250. Condition and model will determine value.

MISC:   identify old bike posted by: ron lundquist on 1/24/2001 at 4:21:12 PM
Found a bike by the name of Gazelle. It has 28 inch tires. The seat tag says "Gazelle by Lemet" I don't know if that is the bike manufacturer or just the seat. The wheels had vynl or canvas skirts from the top of the rear fender to about half way down the rear tire. It seems to be a heavy, well made bike but I can find nothing on it. The serial number is 1929638. Any info on this bike would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Hiawatha bicycle(girls)with the name Hiawatha on the tank and St.Croix on the chain guard. It appears to be from the 1940`s.Has all the parts and seems to be in perfect condition. How can you tell the age and approx.value?
Thanks

RE:MISC:   Information needed posted by bob on 1/17/2001 at 11:37:37 AM
Hiawathas were made for Gambles dept stores by several makers over a long period of time. If it has a skiptooth chain and rear facing dropouts, it was made before or just after WWII. Standard 1/2 " chain probably 1950 or later. If it was made during this time period, it is likely a product of either Shelby or Cleveland Welding Co (roadmaster, hawthorne, western flyer,...) Search for these brands and compare to date it.

There are 2 swap meets coming up very soon in Wisconsin. Unfortunately they are both on February 17 and are 100 miles apart! First, Madison National Guard Armory on Wright Street, Brazen Dropouts Annual Swap Meet. Mostly newer ie. road, mountain and some BMX and a very little bit of old school stuff. Great show and I am manning the concession stand for Wheels for Winners (a non-profit group that donates bicycles, parts and repairs to kids in need in exchange for a little community help on their part).
Same day in Milwaukee at State Fair Park. Feb. 17. Very cool show and swap meet that I have attended for the past 2 years. Vintage and collectible and old school bmx parts. Great public judged show as well. Always has some very cool customs. Sponsored by the Model A Club which is having a swap in the same space the next day Feb. 18.
