WANTED:   info on my columbia bike posted by: Jett Crouse on 11/3/2001 at 9:54:00 PM
I found a 26" Columbia with a gas tank and double headlight and an airplane fender ornament. the bike is complete but rusty. I can't find a serial number and the stickers on the seatpost are unreadable. It's a great look for a resto but I'ld like to know the year, etc. It was black.

30 years ago a photo & story of me and a '64 Stingray made the local paper for my ability to do a 100 yard wheelie, I gave my name as 'Wild Wheels'. In those days I must have spent half my life on that Stingray!

I didn't have a chance to go the the Memory Lane Swap meet this year. Did any one else? If so, how was it?

I went, it was o.k. but the weather played a big factor on the turn-out(30 °f rain,snow,40 mph gusts). Anyone that went was a hardcore bike freak!LOL
I set up as a vendor and sold somethings and did some tradin' I myself had a good time. But was upset with the fact that they cancelled the auction saturday. Spring should be a great show.

Would have missed it for the world, but bring boots in case it is muddy. Usually it's fine though.

STUPID BIKE TRICKS:   My stupid bike trick posted by: ACE on 10/23/2001 at 11:06:38 PM
When I was about ten or so, I was going to try and ride around the shed with my eyes closed. They kept a semi-trailer parked in the shed, but it stuck out of the end. I made it around the shed but forgot about the trailer, the handlebars went under the trailer and I stopped myself with my face in the side of the trailer. I was knocked down but I couldn't run inside and admit what I did. So I just laid there for awhile. My face hurt for a couple of days. Other stupid tricks included jumping anything we could jump, 'spose thats why the cranks were bent on all of our bikes.

MISC:   MOBO TOT-CYCLE posted by: Kathy on 10/19/2001 at 12:55:10 AM
Is anyone familiar with this bicycle? It was purchased in 1953 as a Christmas present for myself by my grandfather at a Kansas City hardware store. It was made in England and says patent was granted and pending. It has 8 1/2 inch wheels with hard (non inflatable) tires, chain driven, a bell that works, adjustable seat. Just a very small version of a large bike, including training wheels that can be removed. I was two when I road it. I have never seen another. If you know anything about this bike or know where i can find info, please let me know.

I have a shiny, red, 1964 "Macy's Own Brand" (Columbia) Cyclone, and I am wondering how rare it is and what it may be worth. 1964 was a big production year for these bikes, but I cannot find any information about them online. It is in very good condition. If you have any info, please contact me. Thanks.

I have acquired a three wheel Tandem bike - it is a Vista Duo - I am interested in finding out the age of this bike and also an approximate value of it - It is a one speed - has two seats, steers from front - looks vintage - but how vintage I have no idea and I have been unable to find anything re the maker of the bike. Any info you have to offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Vista was built by Columbia. What happened when Schwinn started its own distributership the people that were whole salers for Schwinn needed a bicycle to sell so they went to Columbia and stared making there owne bike. I think Service Cycle in New York City was the main people behind this.

Thanks

Hi, I have an old Gym-Dandy Surrey. It has four seats, a canvas top, and a decal with Art Linkletter on it. I am trying to find out how old it is, if it is collectible and how much it is worth. Does anyone know anything? Thanks!

We have one too... manufactured by the Universal Mfg. Co. in Bossier City La. Found new tires for one many years ago but don't have any current info on values... Our kids loved it when they were young... If you find anything please let us know too!!!

Hi,
I don't know the value of the Gym Dandy Surrey today other than the ones I see on Ebay, which vary from $100-$375. What I do know is that I had one of these while growing up. We got ours in approx. 1963 or 1964. My younger sister and I probably wore out a set of tires on ours taking the kids in the neighborhood for rides on it. There was always someone willing to push from behind in exchange for getting a ride in the front next trip. Hope your kids enjoy it as much as we did ours.

I just bought my Uncle's at an auction yesterday. We have fond memories of a Labor Day when they brought it over to our house back in 1967. My Aunt says that there were only a few ever made. Has anyone ever been able to contact anyone involved at the factory? Thanks
