| A friend of mine used to do this "lowrider trick" where using a ten speed bike he would sit on the bikes top frame bar and rest his feet on the front wheel nuts, thereby appearing to look like he was cruising on a Harley. I think you can guess what happened next. Yes, while performing this trick on MY new bike and cruising down hill his foot slipped off the front axle nuts and into the spokes, launching him and the bike. The bike came down with incredible force and bent the back rim such that when viewed from the rear it was in the shape of an L. As for my friend, luckily he landed in the grass next to the road with sprained ankle and sore head. |

| Riding a Stingray on an asphalt parking lot. Hit speed bump, did cool wheelie, then front wheel fell off. Forks buried in the asphalt (had a tough time bending them back--the fork tips were splayed out about two inches per side) and I went face first over the bars and onto the pavement. Hot tip from 1975 or so--make sure those front axle nuts are tight before popping any wheelies on asphalt. |
