I have wanted a hi wheele bike for many years and have only came across 2. Both priced well out of my reach. Last week at a estate sale in Ky one was rolled out of a barn and I had the winning bid. The strange thing about it is the big wheel, a little less than 5 foot is in the back The seat is placed about 1/2 way down the tube and the little wheel has a very long stem that steers. chain drive and no brakes that I can find. solid tires ,Badly rusted but you can tell it was once painted black and had gold lettering but unreadable.A crest shaped head badge has left it's mark but is missing. Two rivit hole on the sides. I have never seen or heard of one like this. Any info out there? The price was $850.00 so I feel like I got a good deal The spokes are very thin from rust so I will never get to ride this wonderfuf bike but just so I will know. How do you mount this thing?
Sounds like you got a new bike Freddie. If you send me some pictures I'll see if I can help you identify it. The big rear wheel with a chain drive sound interesting. Greg Barron RBR Inc.
please send a photo to me, and i can tell you about your bike, it might be worth 5,000.00 to me ,,thanks, walter branche

There were some transition highwheel bicycles made prior to the turn of the century. The main reason was to improve on the dangerous headers caused by the rider being so far up on the highwheel. There were a few produced with chain drive. These few bicycles are highly collectable and if it is one it could run over $10,000.00 or more. If you need accurate identification on the "The Wheelmen" historian and library for possible identification and articiles on your bicycle. "The Wheelmen" is a national organization with internaltional members whose purpose it to promote the enjoyment of collecting and RIDING antique bicycles from the turn of the Century. Richard Taylor, Florida If you can't get through or just need additional research help contact me. I currently have several antique bicycle in this era and have been a "Wheelmen" for several years now. I can put you in touch with the RIGHT PEOPLE who's interest is soley to help you get your bicycle in riding shape if possible.

I have a high wheeler bike and don't have alot of knowledge about it. I am interested in learning more about it. I was hoping that I could get some direction on where to turn. Even just what to look for on the bike to confirm who made it, it's age, and where it came from. I'm in Ontario, so any ideas of anybody around that I could visit with the bike would be a great help

It has been repainted I was told by the daughter of the estate when she got it as a hand me down in the 1940's it is about 36 inches takk at the center of the handlebars which have wooden black ends. On the seat is Made in the USA and I think either Troxel or Trexel? The seat is black leather. the front wheel is 20 inches round and the two back wheels are 14 inches round.
