Hi all I just bought for $100 at a Charity Auction a Sears Screamer 5 speed. Missing only the front chrome fender, headbadge and handlebar tape, it's all original. Paint color is mainly goldbut wuth a red fade to it. (As I usually collect only road and vintage balloon bikes, this was something different for me). This bike also has a dual spring front fork, a red Brake lever next to the 5-speed shifter and dual handbrakes. The decal on the chainguard reads SCREAMER with a large number 1 in a circle. Would anyone know the year it was made? I'm thinking 1969 or 1970. Thanks! Fred by: 69.123.13.128
In '70 or '71 my Dad bought me a Day-Glo Orange bicycle that had mag style wheels, ape hangers and a sissy bar that went way beyond your head. This bike was very unique, I never saw another one around where I grew up. Does anyone know this bike I'm talking about? Any info, links or pix would be appreciated. I'd really love to find out about this bike, I dug the Hell out of it! by: 76.242.25.241

Hi, The original '68 to 73' Krate and the 5 speed Sting-Ray frames are one in the same. The newer replica '98 '99 frames are coaster brake frames and are narrower @ the rear axle mounts(drop-outs)and have no rear caliper brake mount. I think The Orange Krate was introduced in Dec.'67 and this was earlier than the intro. of the 5 speed sting-Ray. I think you'd have to find out the intro. date of the 5 speed Sting-Ray, if an earlier frame was in question. Every frame has a date code that can easily be deciphered. Go to the Schwinn Forums and post a pic. and serial # of any bike you want info. on. They will be able to help you. by: 198.208.159.19
