Hi, I am looking to buy and old schwinn krate frame. I'm thinking right around 1967-1973 or so.... I would just like to buy a frame in fairly good shape just as a little project bike. It would be great if I could get one with some parts, but just a frame would be great. If anyone would be interested in selling an old krate frame, please email at da_man69@sbcglobal.net thank you. by: 69.209.136.88
I am a proud owner of a 1969 Schwinn Stingray Fastback, but the tires are dry rotted. Iam Looking for two 20x1 3/8 to fit s-5 or s-6 Schwinn tubular rims. Are there any aftermarket tire manufactures or N.O.S tires out there. I am also looking for tire tubes and brake rubbers. I would like to find the orignal tires for this bicycle. by: 209.23.26.108

Original Schwinn Krates (orange is the 1st krate color) were made in Chicago from 1968 to '73 around the time when the government began ruling practically every boy's bike equipped w/ top bar-mounted gear shifters as 'unsafe;' however, repro Krates were made overseas in the mid-to-late 90's, and there are differences in the two: while the repro Krates somewhat recaptured the old school w/ the spring fork, sissy bar shocks, chrome chainguard, & the 16-inch front wheel, they lacked the drum brake in that 16-inch wheel, 5-speed derailleur on the 20-inch rear rim (repros have coaster brakes!?!)& top bar gear shifter as well as aftermarket accessories. The serial # locations also changed on the originals from the double-letter/five-digit stamped on the left rear dropout from 1965-69 to the double-letter/six-digit system stamped on the headtube underneath or upside down over the headbadge from 1970 to the early-80's when Schwinn permanently shut down its Chicago plant. (Unfortunately I have no knowledge of the repro serial #'s.) by: 199.179.239.37
