CAN'T SEEM TO LOCATE INFO ON MY SLICK CHICK; 3 SPEED,VIOLET. MODEL DESCRIPTION DOES NOT SHOW THIS EQUIPMENT. ORIGINAL OWNER, FAIR TO BETTER CONDITION WHAT YEAR,STANDARD EQUIPMENT AND UNITS WERE BUILT? by: 24.228.14.98
i found an old schwinn frame in the trash today.i think it is a 24 inch.it is styled like a stingray.its painted black, but under the black is a sunset orange color.the serial #is D469958 and is located on the left rear tire area.i think its pretty old.if anyone can help,i would appreciate it, THANKS alot. by: 24.62.128.65
'One's junk is another's treasure' is definitely the case here. The serial # was stamped on your Schwinn in April of 1964; the OG color buried under that disappointing black is actually a Radiant Coppertone hue that was introduced in '64, whereas Sunset Orange came about in 1973. By the way, you can click on to the serial # charts on this site to doublecheck that fact, but whether or not the frame is a 24" is beyond me. Good luck! by: 199.179.239.160
thanks for the info.i did look on the seriel# chart and couldnt find a match. i know now it is a 20 in frame ,lined it up with one of my stingrays.i am thinking of making a nice lowrider out of it.i have a real nice 76 stingray that i stripped down to bare metal and totaly did over. i painted it an orange flame pearlcoat color, and put all new tires seat sissybar, everything pretty much.it came out beautiful.hope to do the same with this one. by: 192.80.95.243
Schwinn serial # charts are broken down in different ways: 1948-51 #'s have xtra letters & numbers; 1952-March '58 #'s have one letter & five digits; April 1958-64 #'s changed again w/ six digits following the letter which represents the month while the 1st digit reps the year (your trashed frame falls in this category); 1965-69 #'s consists of double letters & five digits (second letter representing the year); and the last serial # system was relocated to the right of the headtube w/ an additional digit from 1970 to '83 or '84. I have three Stingrays myself: a '76 Bicenntenial like your '64, suffers from what I call TPD (that's the Trashed Paintover Disorder), an ugly red burying the OG white soon to be restored back to the OG; and two '78's: a Scrambler that suffers from a broken left dropout and the most sloppiest TPD (a black/purple, or rather 'blurple[?]' over OG silver), and a Sky Blue Stingray that was just trashed, TPD-free, & soon to be restored as a lowrider or OG status. by: 199.179.239.53
after looking at the frame again ,it is bigger than a 20 inch stingray.can anyone tell me what kind of schwinn this is ? by: 192.80.95.243
Could it possibly be a Manta Ray frame? Just wonderin'. Cheers! Larry "Boneman" Bone by: 193.38.171.31
Manta Rays came later in the early-70's. by: 199.179.239.246
I DONT THINK IT IS A MANTA RAY.I WAS THINKING IT COULD BE AN OLD CRUISER STYLE MODEL.WHEN I FOUND THE FRAME ,IT HAD RACER STYLE (LIKE ON A 10 SPEED)HANDLEBARS. THE CRANK HAS FOUR CIRCLES DESIGN. by: 192.80.95.243
