Located a very nice Apple Krate in a pawn shop today and the 1st 3 letters in front of a series of numbers (s/n?) located near the front nameplate are HAK. Do they designate the year, etc? It's in really nice condition and appears to be complete but I don't thinks it's as nice as what they want for it----$450.00 Thanks in advance for any info you can provide. PLW

The bike is a reproduction model ... so to speak ... second edition ... probably made around 1999 ... 450 sounds high in price but as you know all stingrays and or krates are now hard to find, regardless of condition. The question you have to ask yourself is ... what is it worth to me ???

Hi everyone; quick question. Was it 1973 that the date stamp on SA hubs was really faint? I know it was some time around then, just forget the exact year. Also, has anyone ever heard of the S2 hub? 2 speed automatic without coaster brake. Any idea what it's worth (great used shape or NOS)? I understand that they only ever made 11,000 of them. Lastly, was it '73 or '74 that they outlawed the stick shift? Thanks! Niels

Hay again, I was reading on e-bay about a part for an old krate. The guy stated that a date code read on a 68 krate stem. I have many old cast krate stems and never have noticed a date code on them. What is he talking about? Or did I just interpit it wrong? As allways, any help would be considered COOL!
RE:AGE / VALUE: krate parts

Most of the parts of a Krate are either stamped with a date or otherwise datable. Stems, cranks, handlebars have the year on them.
