MISC:    Info on Joe's 50 Year Chicago Flyer posted by: Reed on 11/9/2007 at 9:38:42 AM
I have an old boy's bicycle with a front plate that may be brass and reads:

EST 1919
(Next there is what appears to be an engraving of a bicycle wheel)
Joe's (in script)
50 YEAR
CHICAGO FLYER
(Next there is an engraving of a streamlined train)
(The next engraving shows a six-gun, Cowboy's head, & another six-gun)
(Then in smaller letters it has:)
JOE'S AUTO
CYCLE SUPPLY
3851 OGDEN AVE.
CHICAGO USA
The bike has wood rims. Can someone tell me how old this bike is and the value.

Reed, please explain why your post looks exactly like this oldroads archive:

Imagine my surprise when I googled 'Joe's Auto Cycle Supply Chicago Bicycle' and this archive was the top hit. If it's not some obscure scam, what?
As far as the bike goes, The wheelmen
http://www.thewheelmen.org/
show a Chicago Flyer made by Winnie Machine Works
http://www.owwm.com/MfgIndex/Detail.asp?ID=905
which (the machine works) could have been 50 years old around 1923.

Ken: Seen a query in a "old" listing from several years ago and copied and added ( please note: my remark about the wooden rims ). I have the bicycle in hand. Thanks, Reed

Reed, thanks for your reply. Sorry I was over-suspicious.
It sounds like an interesting machine and I hope you will have photos to share. I also hope the group here can help with your search. Have you contacted the Wheelmen?
I was impressed that the antique machine guys listed the machine company as the bike's manufacturer. Did you get anything from that link?
