Recently i acquired a 50 something model ladies schwinn with all original and working parts. The color is rose with a somewhat metallic tinge and has sparkle grips. It has the original 3 or 4 speed Sturmey gear, headlight and rear taillight with battery casing. I am not real familiar with this model. I did a serial number search and found duplicate serial numbers for 1952, 1953 and 1957. I AM TRYING TO DATE MY BIKE. All parts are original. The serial number was found on the left rear axle and is D11887. Could i possibly date the the bike from the serial number on the fear shift which was is a 3 or speedsturmey? If you know what the model is, where i can find a picture, etc. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, LET ME KNOW. I am considering the bike for resale, it is in VERY Good condition. Thanks, Teri by: 65.147.163.124
Often times(but not always) the Sturmey-Archer rear hubs had a month-year date on them. Clean the grease off the middle part of the hub and look for it. It should look something like 6 54(meaning June 1954) for example. by: 168.236.254.1
I am selling a 1986 Batavus Professional, made in Holland. In its day, this bike was second to none insofar as build and aestetics!!! This bike was given to me by a former professor (and he was -- bless his heart -- an OCD counseling prof and, hence, you must know that this bike is in truly pristine condition). Alas, it is too small for me (i.e., 56cm) and, therefore, this amazing piece of history (and present) must find a new home. It still has all the original Campy Record components; in fact, it is all original, sans the new Michelan Pro tires, Selle seat (which was $70 new itself), and handle bar take (I would have loved to have kept these parts vintage, but they were not functional given the years in the SC sun). As mentioned, this bike is in astonishing condition -- you will be shocked. I am hoping to get $400 plus shipping but it will be concurrently listed on ebay. I can be reached at 803 269 4932. Thanks for your consideration and keep riding. by: 24.211.55.56
