MISC:   Firestone Pilot posted by: Erica Meadows on 9/30/2005 at 2:49:31 AM
I have a Firestone Pilot bicycle that was left in the garage of a 1920s house that I just bought. I would like to sell it, but have no idea what its worth or what year it may be. I have pictures of it that I can send if anyone is willing to take a look and help me out. Thanks!!!

I'll help if I can. Firestone didn't manufacture the bikes Firestone Stores sold, so you may get a better match looking at a Murray, Roadmaster, etc. There are 3 Firestone Pilots in the Picture Database on this site. Compare yours with those first. (Ignore the egregious banana seat on one of them.) The chainwheel on the 54 looks like a Murray to me. If you don't get a close match, go to
http://nostalgic.net/arc/bicycles/
where there are some old Firestones and a newer Roadmaster Pilot.
Send me a picture, and post one to the database.

I have been told by a professional restorer that the Pilot was made by Schwinn from 1938 to 1942.

I have one that is functional, yet needs work.

You can check either Memory Lane Classics (www.memorylane-classics.com) or Maple Island Sales(www.mapleislandsales.com); they both stock a variety of Schwinn decals. Good luck!
