hi, my friend just picked up a 1973 schwinn varsity 27 inch bike. the color is yellow and everything is original. the bike is in great working condition and only has very few small scratches. i was just wondering how much he should sell it for and if they are rare. thanks, stuart www.vintagebicycleparts.cjb.net
They are neither rare nor valuable. They made lots and lots of them, and as they were well-made, sturdy bikes, there are still lots of them around. A perfect example might go for $50. They're nice riders, but fairly heavy, which is why roadies sneer at them. Most Schwinn collectors don't like them because they're not as "cool" as either the fat-tire streamliners or the krates. After enough of them have been trashed, scarcity will make them more valuable.
Hi Stuart, I have a 1972 Kool Lemon Schwinn Varsity that I picked up at a Thrift Shop. Mine is in very good condition, and I use it a a beater bike around the neighborhood. I enjoy the Varsities because everyone I ever talked to either had one or wanted one as a kid. I sold several others that I fixed up for $50 which I think is a fair price for them. I say if it fits fix it and ride it.
well thats a bummer, i expected for it to be worth more than that. thanks alot for the help. stuart, www.vintagebicycleparts.cjb.net

| Greetings everyone!! Been doing some searching here the last couple days for parts for a couple of my "Babies",and I was wondering if anyone could help...Have a '51 Raleigh Sports that I rebuilt a couple years ago that's in beautiful condition other then the switch on the headlight was broken...(Dyna-hub set up..)Anyone got an old headlight I could "gut" for parts and see how this was originally wired?? Also,my '79 Tourist's front rod brake is slipping past the lock ring...I admit,I haven't got into it yet,but it appears that the threads are about gone either in the bolt or nut...Came acros this site looking for that piece, but Menotomy appears to be sold out of what I need...Anyone got bits and pieces for your "typical, everyday, run of the mill" rod brake bike??? The "Neon and Spandex" boys at the bike shops in Ann Arbor don't want anything to do with me...(Hey,the feelings mutual...lol) Okay now, since I'm here begging, does anyone have any good old "Campy" stuff for my first 10-speed,a Crescent 531 framed and forked model, circa '73, with what I call "english" threads and from what I gather is known in the trade as "BSC"(?) Would like to find a rear derailuer, crank and headset, but those prices on e-bay,mama mia!!! (Should have bought whatever I came across back when I was hanging around the backs of bike shops in the '70's and early '80's during my misspent youth...lol) One last thing,if anyone's interested,I oughta try and get rid of a couple bikes I got at garage sales and such over the years and never ride... Have a Fuji S-12S,and a "mixte" framed Schwinn Continental that are in real good shape and have been completly torn apart and gone through... Also my sister's AMF roadmaster Debutante deluxe "stingray type bicycle" I grabbed out of the folks attic years ago and redid...(See how some people deal with winters in Michigan??? lol) Thanks for any help and enjoy your rides!!!
