Ihave a Western Flyer in totally mint condition and I believe (and hope) that it is an original. It has a metal tag on the head tube that says "Western Flyer, Winchester, Ct., circa 1950." On the tank it says, "Special Edition". Do either of these statements determine whether or not the bike is an original or a reproduction? thanks very much for your help. KB
Sounds like one of the reproductions probably made by Columbia. A clue is the "circa 1950" tag, identifying that bike as built to resemble a bicycle of that time period. Those reproductions were not a true reproduction of any particular model but a combination of several features of many 50's bikes. It is a good bike to ride and enjoy and not be a heartache if it gets scratched or damaged.
I'm looking for a 16 x 1.75" semi pneumatic tire to fit an old Schwinn pixie. Anybody???
Try memorory lane classics, they list one in their catalog
Am looking for a vintage Raleigh Roadster, or Sports,or Sprite, or Record Ace, or other racer, for sale. 19-22 inch frame, 28" wheels preferred, not essential. Ontario or upper New York state.
Interested in finding the worth of a John Deere 26" bicycle
Which one or what color. They are not highly collectors. The white one sells for around $80.00. The green one from $100.00 to $150.00 The blue ones are more rare but don't bring as much. The 20" yellow is the the best seller for some reason and has been bringing around $200.00 to $300.00 the black racer don't bring a lot around $100.00 to $125.00. your best bet would be to find a jd collector not a bicycle collector for they are not well built bikes most foreign made.
Help! I need a headbadge for a monark super deluxe. I have a complete bike in very good condition except it is missing the headbadge. Can anybody help?
I need to buy an Auburn CR 20 RX. I will take either just frame/fork or the entire bike. I want to get back into riding and this is the only bike that I will ride.
I just bought a very nice 50s (?) vintage 26 in men's 3 speed JC Higgins bike (made in Austria). I desperately need a chain guard. Original style is preferred but does anyone know of any after-market one that will fit? I'm not sure if the original of this bike had the fully enclosed guard or the feather style. Anyone know?? The rear SA axle has the numbers "50320" beneath the words J.C. Higgins Thanks! Paul
Paul, what color is the bike? I think I have a blue and cream enclosed guard for a 50's Higgins.
I know this is for bicycles,I`m a collector but yesterday a guy brought me a tricycle and I just couldn`t resist. It`s a old western flyer blue with white trim his guess is about 70years old it has truss rods on the front a chrome and leather saddle with springs and all.My question is where can I get any info on this thing are there any numbers or other markings to help ID the year? I no nothing about trikes, can any one steer me in the right direction?
Dear Sirs at Menotomy Vintage Bicycles Inc. Thank you for your reply regarding my questions about my Columbia twosome bicycle. This bicycle built for two does have 26x 1.75 tires indicating that it falls into the 1959-1969 manufacturing era. However, I can not find the serial number anywhere on this bike. The paint looks like it could be original and I don't want to mare it by looking for these numbers. Would these numbers be evident? -Or- could they be covered up by the paint? You mentioned that they could be under the rear bottom bracket (rear crank hanger) would this be the under side of the rear crank housing? Or one of the bars intersecting into this section? I took off the chain guard as well as the kickstand and I couldn't find any numbers under either. The paint is in really good shape, but not immaculate, and shows signs of wear and fading. I doubt that this bike has been repainted. Is there a certain spot on this bike with a certain method I might use to find these numbers with out sanding the paint off unnecessarily? Is there any approx value or price range that this bike falls into? Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Tom Ashmead
I got an old Scwinn Speedster and I am trying to figure out what year it is using its serial. The serial # is CK587114 and I do not know why it is not shown in the Scwinn serial dates. The tires are 26 x 1 3/8. It is all original but it is kind of rusty. How much would this bike cost? does anybody have an idea about its year? Thanks
It is in the charts. C is March, K is 1974
I have a 1983 Gun Metal Blue Trek 520 12 speed for sale. Frame is 22 1/2 in, 27in Alloy wheels, Suntour Cyclone II Front and rear der, DiaCompe Brakes. It is a double crank, not a triple (looks like it was turned from a touring to a road racing bike) that's the bad news. The good news is the rear hub is a Shimano, not a Helicomatic. Bike was just overhauled and lokks like a 7.5-8 out of 10. Asking $100 for pick up in Baltimore area.
