WANTED: Information about old Spitfire bicycles
posted by: Philip Chavin
on 10/12/2001 at 5:55:32 PM
| Way back in 1945 I bought a new "Spitfire" model, 26-inch, boys', baloon-tired bicycle. (I guess it was probably manufactured by Schwinn.) Its handlebars were painted black(!), probably because World War II was still on and chrome-plated handlebars weren't being made then-- at least not on low-price bikes. Would anyone have -- or know where I could find -- pictures and/or information about this 1945 Spitfire? Or info about new bicycles sold with black-painted handlebars during World War II? Thanks. |
