I am looking to buy non-exclusive reprint rights to quality photos of old bikes. Schwinn, BMX, just about anything. Thank you.
I recently aquired an old schwinn bike that is all rusty but there. My original intention was to paint and fix for my 8 year old, but now I,m not sure. It is a yellow fairlady with serial # d7167. I'm a bit confused with the number system. Also if anyone has a general idea of price, I would appreciate it. I also would like to know if you take the rust off of fenders etc or just replace. Thanx lisa
If you're worried about depriving future generations of some sort of priceless artifact, don't sweat it. Any Schwinn an 8-year old can deal with is not a valuable collectible. Just ask those mercenaries at the Schwinn Collector's list. Schwinns were extremely popular in all age ranges. They are less rare than many of the "off-brand" bikes. They have an inflated value because baby-boomers want the bikes they wanted, or cherished, as older kids. Rust on chrome can be removed by rubbing it with crumpled aluminum foil. Try cleaning the frame with a vigorous spray cleaner like 409. If it looks pretty good, wax it to keep it that way. If not, give it what bike-collector purists call "house paint"(includes neat spray-can work). If you do so, try to do a nice job of it. Either way, your child will appreciate that you expended some energy on it's behalf. The important thing about a child's bike is that it be safe. Be sure the brakes work, and that nothing that can come loose is likely to do so. If you've already bought it, it's a little late to be worrying about its value. It was obviously worth what you paid for it, or you wouldn't have bought it; unless you're one of those rubes who automatically assume that any Schwinn is worth a fortune. If not, lighten up; they're nice bikes, no matter what shape the decals are in, or whether the paint job is original or Krylon.
Agreed. The bike was made for an 8 year old and value aside, it is not too good for your daughter. Also try very fine bronze or steel wool with WD40 on the rust if it is too heavy for the foil to tackle.
Thanx for the info. Actually I rescued it from a trashcan!! I had one as a kid and it brought back fond memories. Thanx again lisa

Have a Schwinn Speedster serial # GHO19711 Three speed with 312 Miles. Is there any value in this bike, every thing is original
That's a 72 model. Early Schwinn Lightweight bikes are only beginning to become collectors items. A few early (pre 1968) ones have sold for ' $200 recently. Yours was made during the bike boom of the early 70s and at present is practically worthless. But it is a nice ride and worth keeping for sure. Accessories are a big plus (I assume you have a speedometer since you know the milage).
I need a seatpost for a 1969 Schwinn Runabout. It has measurement markings and is quite long. Somebody cut mine!
Look around for a Schwinn Excercise bike. Same post and they can usually be bought cheap.
