I took a look at this tool this Mark Stonich fellow was talking about. This is THE TOOL to remove the bottom bracket fixed cups as well as the adjustable cup. The block fits over the cup and it has a large square surfact that you use a long wrench to slowly and properly remove the stubborn fixed cup. This is awesome. He's got a nice web page and well, I'm very, very pleased to see this. by: 209.104.139.1
I sent him an email saying that I'm interested. Looks very nice. by: 64.42.26.98
I got more positive feedback on this tool than I did for the cotter presses. So I decided on a production run of 40 units. I did change the design, which MAY force me to raise the price a buck or two. The distance between the flats on these cups is nominally 5/8" of an inch, 0.625". However, some are a bit over that, and the tool works best with a snug or even slightly interference fit. So, I'm having Todd put a slot on both faces of the tool, one 0.625" wide and the other 0.629" wide. I'll post an update when they are available. I'll offer a $5 discount to anyone buying both the BB tool and a cotter press. by: 209.162.11.59
I WANT ONE. USE A GOOD, HARD AS YOU CAN GET,QUALITY STEEL SO THE TOOL DOES NOT WEAR OUT AS QUICKLY AS MINE DID. by: 66.167.212.244
They will use 4140, same as my prototype. I've used mine for a couple of years and it's good as new. Having two slots will ensure a better fit so it should be quite durable. by: 209.162.11.59
I think that a special tool to do this job is a great help. I have been able to remove fixed cups on Raleigh. I use an adjustable wrench held on by 2 washers and a nut & bolt. I originaly used a vise in place of the wrench. The hardness of the steel wrench is important. I finally found a quality adjustable wrench. This one is just as hard as the cup. A super garage sale deal for $3. Ed by: 64.136.27.226
I hear what you are saying but nothing beats a real proper tool for the job and this tool of Mark's is really top shelf. Now all we need are spare N.O.S. fixed and adjustable cups! by: 64.12.116.136
I have a few if you need. I don't have the adjustable side. $20 each. Ed by: 64.136.27.226
