ENGLISH ROADSTERS:   Hercules Serial Number ??? posted by: Steve on 11/13/2007 at 3:11:27 PM
Hi there, I've just acquired an Hercules (Birmingham built) bike with A Sturmey Archer K6 Hub, fully enclosed chain guard, original cable brakes etc and was wondering where the serial number of the bike is located so that I can hopefully work out the age.
I'm presuming that Hercules did number their bikes.
Can anyone advise. Thanks.

Hi,

going by the hub. K6. 1936 K series hub. That would make it a 1936 bike. Nice find, enjoy the ride. Whereabouts are you? Are you a V-CC member?

Re Hercules serial number question - I've found it !
It turned out to be KE 6465 stamped on the near-side hub bracket. I found it by accident as I was struggling to line the wheel up properly having just put a new innertube in, this seemed to have upset the K6 hub slightly and spent the next two hours messing about with this having spent ten minutes putting a new tube in ! Thanks Matthew for K6 info. I'm in London. I'm not V-CC member, do you have details, would be interested. Thanks Steve.

ENGLISH ROADSTERS:   Front Rack for Raleigh? posted by: Andy on 11/13/2007 at 1:42:43 PM
Can anyone recommend a vintage-style front rack for a barrel-fork Raleigh (1975 LTD-3)? Yellow Jersey has one but won't work with barrel forks. Jorg & Olif has one as well but it's a little bigger (and costlier) than I'm looking for:

I found this on eBay: 180179045568

Would this fit on a 23.5 inch bike w/ 26 inch wheels? Looks like it's made for a standard Dutch bike.

A Pletscher Athlete front rack might work. See www.pletscher.ch There's an American distributor.

It says that the Pletscher Athlete front rack attaches to the brake bolt - therefore the type of fork crown shouldn't matter, right?

I think the rack you pointed out is great but not really vintage in style.

AGE / VALUE:   English Humber posted by: Mike on 11/11/2007 at 9:19:33 AM
Hello
I recently purchase an Mens 10 Speed Humber LTD Riviera oad bike. It has 27" wheels and it appears to be from the 70's or 80's. I cant find any info on it at all. I was wondering if its a collectable or just a run of the mill type of bike. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Hello Mike,

Its probably a badge engineered Townsend or Falcon, not a Raleigh. I believe the Humber name stayed in Barton upon Humber with the Townsend and Falcon / Claude Butler brands. Either way as a ten speed you may get a better response from the vintage lightweight DB. Its not really an English roadster as such.
