I used to race back in the 80s and I still have my skyway I rode back then. Yesterday I tokk my son to the local track for the first time in his little life and I did a few laps on my bike. The old dude my age were out their racing and you would have thought they saw a ghost when they peeped out my skyway. They were like {"dude what are you doing riding that ...dont you know what its worth?" So I played it all cool and said ya of course. But these dudes acted like it should be in amuseum or something. Can any body help me figure out what I have here besides a sentimental old BMX by: 63.229.17.194

I came across an old bmx that is supposedly a 1980 Schwinn Tornado. The frame looks like a mini cruiser frame. The tires are 20" but the cranks are tiny and the bike seems like it was made for a child, I can't even ride it. I can't find any info on it, and while it does appear to be a ligit Schwinn I'm having doubts. Anything on the bike would be appreciated. Thankyou. by: 71.188.17.201
There are a number of pictures of the Schwinn Tornado in the Picture Database (click on "Picture Database" at the top of any page). It sounds like you do have a real one. Reply back here letting us all know, after you check out the photos.
jj- Thx for the pic. That is the bike I own. I don't know why I couldn't find anything on it. I did manage to find someone selling one on Craig's List that looked the same but had some new parts on it (I am almost certain mine is all original). Is it a common bike? Does it have any value? Thx again. Rob. by: 71.188.17.201
Rob, it is a valuable bike. The Tornado was one of schwinn first bmx style bikes. Most shwinn's had the smaller cranks and lower bottom brackets. I have a tornado as well. Just a cool old bike to have.. by: 24.20.177.171
