Interested in anyone having more information on this bicycle. Believe bicycle was from WWII era, said received in 1975 in same condition as shown. Any information on the age or type is appreciated. Hercules 26" 3 Spd Thanks
It is English. There may be a 2-digit date code on the rear hub. Post this picture under the English Roadster discussion area where the English bike experts are. by: 72.93.84.141
Can't tell you too much but I believe Hercules did make their own 3 spd hubs for a while don't know if they were date stamped.Around 1960 Hercules was absorbed by Tubing Industries and built in the Raleigh plant. These would have Sturmey Archer 3 speeds. That would have to be pretty unusual for me to pay $150. by: 74.71.71.119
good call again Spike. They did make their own hubs before the conglomeration. Sheldon Brown mentioned them in (if memory serves) a discussion of hybrid gearing, because the Herc hubs had a threaded driver which would allow attaching a freewheel. It may have been as early as 55 or 6 they started using S-A. by: 209.7.150.163
