Murray made them for Sears. There are offbrand clones that are slightly different but the Spaceliner is a Sears exclusive. by: 138.26.192.155
You can find lots of discussion and pictures on these bikes. It never had a badge, since the tank went around the headtube. The tank had dual headlights and a horn. The luggage rack had a central part containing a taillight and fin-shaped grab rails outside that. The saddle also had a grab rail. by: 209.7.150.163

At what point did J.C. Higgins stop using skip toothed cranks? I have an old J.C. and would like to find out the production date. I have the model and serial numbers but don't know what to look for. by: 150.199.175.194
If it is a JC Higgins, you know it was made after they started making bikes again after World War II. Sears bikes before the war were Elgin. About the only way to get a good handle on the year of manufacture is to get a copy of the Elgin Hawthorne Collectible bike book and match your bike to one of the catalog reprints. by: 165.234.9.92
I have a JC Higgins bicycle that probably made pre-1960's. I would like to determine its manufacture date. The numbers stamped on the crack are: MOST, MOD50245500, 179656. These numbers are one above the other. Any idea's? John S. by: 65.189.236.108
