BALLOON:   shelby sale ID ? posted by: terry barham on 9/21/2006 at 6:40:05 PM
I have found a Shelby for sale , appears to be complete but in need of full resto . The only thing poss missing , a lens (if there was one ) for the tank light & the grips are rotten . Rust is a 5 ( 1-10) ie , no rot , some paint color shows on tank & fenders ( 2 tone ) , chrome is pitted w/ surface rust but some still shines , she rolls , the pedals & cranks work , wheles fairly true , even the chain is okay . I've searched a few sites and the closest match is the pic of the 1940 airflow on" Daves " . The plate says supreme , but it doesn't look like any supreme models pictured . has the tank/light that extends past the stem but the fender stays are straight as per your 1940 airflo . Any info appreciated . And now the dreaded "value" question , I realize the infinite variables here , ( I'm a old car guy , and a cyclist .), but based on my description is $ 150 : a) too good to be true b ) a fair price , or c ) walk don't run the other way . if the answer is a any further detail might give me the courage to leap into yet another fire as this would be my first vintage bike . BTW , great website... the kids finally gave up on the computer and went to bed ... I've been

MIDDLEWEIGHT:   59 Deluxe Tornado posted by: Gregg Cooper on 9/19/2006 at 11:12:46 AM
Hello,
I have a 59 double straight-bar frame that could have been a Tronado, Deluxe Tornado, or a Flying Star. I am currently restoring the bike, but I need a picture or reference of what a DELUXE TORNADO tank, rack, and light would have looked like.
I do not know if a regular straight-bar tank would work, and I do not know what paint/graphics were applied.
ANY HELP?
Thanks!
Gregg Cooper

Tornado was actually a german bike called Ace. it has 2 bars added to a plain frame with fichtel and sachs hubs, and its far better ride then a schwinn. i know of no tank for them, and never saw one. but that dont mean there isnt one. good luck

For me I guess that would explain something I've always wanted to know about my '60 deluxe twister: the bolt-on kickstand. Does yours have a bolt-on kickstand as well?

Hi Greg. Your bike is a Scwinn, right? Tank is a regular straight bar, but painted body same a rest of bike, front wing is white. Rack is the standard 9 hole with simple reflector in back. Light is a delta hawk (low profile, hooded lense). Graphics are simple - one color with white pinstripes. Give me a bit and I will post pictures of my untouched original. Enjoy! Brad

welcome back! how frustrating. as big as this site is, it must have been a nightmare. I posted a pic of my 56 Starlet, have been waiting! also have a 56 Robin hood with odd forks, almost lok bent, but no signs of it, however they curve way out front. may have been gradual over yrs. looks cool.
