AGE / VALUE:   1949 Schwinn hornet posted by: Frank on 5/14/2006 at 12:40:26 PM
I found a (49) Schwinn hornet in fair shape minus a tank and front light.Fenders, wheels, frame, chainguard, and seat are original and in fair-good shape. What is the approx. value as is? How much would a tank and light cost?

Well we had a darn good weekend hunting up some bikes.
Friday we found a very nice c.1960s Columbia tandem a
Huffy middle weight and aSchwinn Bantam with a stingray style seat. All in very respectable condition. And all at one sale.
Today again at one sale We found a 60 Schwinn Racer Single speed coaster brake comeplete with its S seat,
A 62 stripped 3 speed mens frame with a Bendix 2 speed kickback rear hub, nice rims and a forties seat and a fair
Columbia mens single speed 26" lightweight? All at $2 each.
Then to top it all
off a terrific little approximate 1/4 scale toy girls bike
with working light, front basket, working bulb horn, real rearview mirror, a rear rack,3 piece freewheel style crank assembly, and a real chain.A wonderful little toy.
Now if I can just find some place to keep them all.

You hit it right on Ken.It is Mollys Blue bicycle by American Girl.It has been retired
New ones are asking $100 or more and I saw a used one at
$70.Two others at only about $18.I paid less than $100 for my DL1.
