I have what I beleive to be a 38-39 schwinn w/springer front and internal brake on front. The WORLD on neck plate and skiptooth sprockets.Serial #x84596.If anyone can tell me anything or knows anything please e-mail me. by: 71.121.178.119
67-69 schwinn typhoon w/ pinstripe paint on seat tube, kinda late 60s hot rod lookin. surrounds quarter sized schwinn stamp/logo on seat tube, this pinstripe panting is about a foot long. is this stock? I have never seen this. by: 209.83.12.22
I believe that is stock. Actually I believe it's a Corvette decal, but I'm no expert on older Schwinns. The decals are on ebay, I have seen them lately. by: 4.230.87.194
i just purchased a 50's schwinn (thats what they told me), s/n c74567 located under the crank. i think it is a 1952 phantom? the chain guard has the circle (i guess were the decal goes) located towards the top of the guard. unlike the common ones where it is located at the bottom. also i think the badge is blue with lines shooting out from the name. this is what i can notice from the pic's. any info would be great and if you have any ideas or books i might be able to get to retore this to its orginal form would be helpful. thanks, robert by: 207.200.116.197
In 1952 Schwinn serial numbers were moved to the left rear dropout, so it is unlikely your bike is a 1952. However, the number doesn't match any of those listed for 1948-51, and numbers prior to that were lost in a fire. The first year for the Phantom was 1949. The chainguard does not sound original for a Phantom - does the bike have chrome fenders like a Phantom and a cantilever frame? by: 216.129.246.217
thanks for your info. i now find out from the seller that the #'s are located at the left rear drop which makes it a late 50's i think. the fenders are painted and the light is missing. he is asking $322.00 for it and i am not to sure it is worth that price now. what do you think? thanks, rob by: 207.200.116.5
Phantoms are Schwinn's equivalent to Cadillacs of all its models; I remember seeing an early-50s Black Phantom in the most rustiest state of any Schwinn I've ever seen go for $800, so to answer your question: $322 is a bargain to jump on, believe it! by: 199.179.239.229
