| Who manufactured the Mercury bicycle? and does anyone know if the Chicago Cycle Supply Co. was a distributor for Monark and Rollfast bikes as well as Schwinn bikes? I have a chain guard on a 1941 Monark that I have never seen on another Monark, but looks like a Mercury guard? by: 68.75.165.147 |
| as far as I know Mercury bikes were made by Murray Ohio. I have a few old ads which indicate this. here is the pic. thanx. Scott

| There are several Mercurys on http://nostalgic.net/arc/bicycles/ the one labeled "40s" matches your frame I think but none of them has that chainring. Chicago Cycle Supply did carry Murray-built for a while. I don't know about the others... by: 209.7.184.147 |
| Thanks on that. The 30s Mercurys shown have the chainguards about as close as I have seen but have an extra rib running through (10). Mine has 9. All the 41 Monarks shown have the same frame as mine. The Mercury frames are different (more rounded)at the headpost junction. Sooner or later I'll find a similiar chainguard somewhere. | Just wondering where to buy tubes for my Schwinn Twinn? It's got 26 x 1 3/4" tires on it. I don't see that size tube listed in the QBP catalog or anywhere else. Where do you buy 'em? Should I just use a regular mountain tube 26x1.9-2.125 which has an ETRTO of 559-584? That would cover the Schwinn wheel which has a 571. by: 65.31.166.85 |
