HOW CAN YOU TELL IF ITS A KICKBACK HUB? by: 207.200.116.139
3 stripes around the center of the hub in either yellow, blue, or red. by: 138.26.156.139
Did anyone besides Bendix make a 2-speed kickback hub? I know New Departure made a 2-speed cable operated hub, but that is the only other 2-speed I can think of. by: 63.102.203.28
I think there's a Sachs (?) 2 speed kickback maybe??? New Departure, musselman, and Bendix made 2 speeds with shifters. Any others? by: 138.26.156.139
I've seen one called a duomatic (kickback type) on Canadian bikes, but I don't know who makes it. by: 165.234.9.107
Corbin(USA) made a kick-back in 1910! http://www.nostalgic.net/index.asp?L=340 also Sturmey/archer made a kick-back(very rare)in the 70s Other two speed hubs include Sturmey/archer(and two speed fixed gear hub),Torpedo(two speed coaster),BSA,Columbia 2speed shaft drive, odd two speed front BBs were also made. And a very odd two freewheel set-up that allowed a second gear by pedling backward!---sam(I'm sure I left out about 100 more) by: 69.150.212.189
Ok, Sam - the S/A kickback is news to me. What's the model designation for it? Take care, Kurt by: 64.12.116.198
All I can that you don't know is a friend I've delt with a lot out in New Zeland has one.Now you know as much about this S/A kick-back as I do---i've ask people in England that do the Chopper site--they think it may be one of those Raleigh/sturmey archer parts that was only an export idem.---sam by: 69.150.212.189
You guys are a great source of information! by: 63.102.203.28
| When I was in high school, I had this old cruiser that had a 2 speed hub that switched gears when you pedalled backwards. It also had coaster brakes. Is this a kickback hub? I am new to the biking world, but recently bought an Emory cruiser that I am planning to restore. I would really like to find one of these 2 speed hubs to slap on it. Can anyone out there PLEASE help me with some info? I really dig this bike, and the 2 speed hub would rule my world. Please e-mail me with any advice. Thanks much. | I have an AMF two speed kickback with chrome fenders, rims, and whitewall tires. I've had it since 1972. Anybody know anything about it? by: 64.12.116.202 |
AMF is generally considered a department-store brand, and not of the best quality, however, the two-speed kickback hub, if a Bendix model, makes the bike rather valuable, as the kickbacks are highly-prized little gems. Check and see if the hub shell has 3 red or yellow lines - that should be enough to determine whether it's a Bendix or not. Take care, Kurt by: 152.163.100.198
While Kurt is right ,AMF did buy-out Roadmaster and you will find a lot of AMF roadmasters and also they assumbled in the Little Rock factory AMF Hurcules(english racers)too. So some of the AMF bike are fairly good bikes---sam by: 69.150.212.189
can someone please help with the age of a schwinn/goodrich straight bar.?.. serial #'s H32862
If the s/n is located on the left rear dropout it is a 1953. by: 209.247.222.49
serial # located on bottom of crank housing... by: 152.132.10.134
Then it was made prior to 1948. Do the dropouts face forward or backward? If they face forward then the bike was made after WWII, so your bike would probably be a 46 or 47. If they face backwards then the bike was made prior to 1942. I believe the earliest it would be is 1935. by: 209.247.222.42
gordon, thanks for your reply. the bike hasn't arrived yet, but i believe it to be a 41-43 autocycle stamped with the goodrich logo. here is the URL to the pic,,, http://home.insightbb.com/'bonnykaye/01.jpg . take a look and tell me what you think. by: 152.132.10.134
looks like link in bad, sorry. i'll post pics as soon as it gets here. from pics i've seen, looks like they face back... by: 152.132.10.134
